A Chatham-Kent police officer is charged with assault and uttering threats in an on-duty incident last month.
Const. Fraser Curtis, who has been with the service for 14 years, is charged in an incident that occurred on June 26 in Chatham when he was on duty, Chatham-Kent police said Wednesday.
Chatham-Kent police said it requested Windsor police to conduct an independent investigation.

Curtis was arrested Wednesday and released with conditions.
“There were no injuries sustained as a result of the incident,” police said.
Curtis has been placed on administrative duties and no further information will be released to protect the integrity of the investigation, police said.
Curtis was awarded the medal of bravery in 2016 from Ontario’s lieutenant governor.
Former Chief Gary Conn recommended Curtis for the distinction after he put himself in harm’s way to rescue a man from a fire.
Curtis has an Aug. 20 court appearance.
One assault suspect turns himself in, second one still sought
A man wanted in an assault turned himself into Chatham-Kent police on Wednesday.
A man was seriously hurt with a puncture wound on King Street East in Chatham on Saturday, police said. He was treated and released from hospital.
Kayden Alward, 19, of Chatham, was charged with aggravated assault and held for bail, police said.
Ethan Carron, 20, of Wallaceburg, was previously arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He is in custody with a court date later this month.
Police are also looking for Kodin Young, 21, of Chatham.

Police remind the public not to approach or interact with the suspect.
