Man charged with impaired driving after police called to vehicle fire

An Aylmer man is facing impaired driving charges after officers responded to a call involving a vehicle on fire, provincial police say.

Middlesex OPP and the Thames Centre fire department responded about 5:30 p.m. on June 13 to a location on Putnam Road in Thames Centre, east of London, after receiving reports of a vehicle fire.

Once at the scene, officers performed a sobriety test and the driver of the vehicle was arrested, police said, adding no one was hurt in the fire.

A 24-year-old Aylmer man is charged with impaired driving by alcohol and impaired driving while having a blood-alcohol level above 80 mg per 100 ml of blood.

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 13, police said.

Man arrested after machete chase: Windsor police

Windsor police arrested a 39-year-old man in the downtown Thursday afternoon following reports a person was being chased by someone armed with a machete.

Officers were dispatched to the call in the 800 block of Ouellette Avenue shortly after 2 p.m., police said.

When they arrived at the scene, police say officers got a description of the suspect from nearby witnesses. Acting on this information, officers launched a search and arrested a suspect near the intersection of Wyandotte Street West and Pelissier Street, police said.

According to police, nobody suffered injuries during the incident. Officers seized a machete during the arrest, police said.

A man is charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, police said.
