MARJORIE MacTAVISH
Marjorie MacTavish, beloved wife of the late James “Jim” MacTavish, passed away peacefully at the Kincardine hospital, with family by her side, on Friday, Jan. 19, 2024, at the age of 82.
She was born in Kincardine on Jan. 28, 1941, daughter of the late Verna (Hicks) and Samuel Stanley.
Greatly missed by son Jeff (Valerie) MacTavish and daughter Michele (Bob) Hunter; grandchildren Shannon (Martin), Erin (Carl), Lauren (Andrew), Nicole (Liam) and James; and great-grandsons Ian and Andy.
Also survived by sisters Shirley MacKinnon, Leona Setley and Helen (Clarke) Pollock, sister-in-law Evylene MacTavish, brothers-in-law Eugene Walden and Claire Thuell, and by several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by son James David MacTavish and siblings John Stanley, Alma Dunk, Georgina Moore, Earl Stanley, Eric Stanley, June MacLean, Betty Stanley and Gloria Ritchie.
Marj and Jim married in 1959 and moved to the family farm on Concession 2 of Huron Township, where they started their family and work life. Marj worked briefly as a waitress at the Bruce Inn in the early 70s, then as a bankteller for the Bank of Montreal in Kincardine. She then went to Ripley and worked at the Royal Bank in 1974 until she retired in 1997.
Marj and Jim moved from the farm to Nelson Street in Kincardine and settled there in their retirement until 2022, when they sold the house and moved to a condo on Charles Street. Marj enjoyed her retirement and had many wonderful memories with her five grandchildren. She and Jim enjoyed travelling to warm climates often and maintained a busy and active social life in Kincardine and Ripley.
Marj loved to swim at the Davidson Centre, for many years, and enjoyed the company and friendship of many swimmers. She was also a devoted fan of the soap opera “The Bold and the Beautiful” and as she engaged her friends and family in this enjoyment, she made you realize that disturbing her, during this time slot, put you in peril.
Following Marjorie’s wishes, a graveside funeral service will take place in the spring at the Ripley Cemetery.
