MURIEL OSBORNE
Muriel Ella Osborne of Ripley passed away at the Wingham & District Hospital suddenly on Monday, Dec. 25, 2023, at age 92.
She was born on Aug. 7, 1931 in Kincardine to the late Ella May (McMaster) and Ralph Scott.
Beloved wife of the late Robert S. Osborne,
Dear Mother of Joyce Osborne of Ripley, Joan (Neil) Vincent of Belgrave, Sheila (Garry) Smart of Meaford and Kevin Osborne of Ripley.
Also greatly missed by granddaughter Margaret Vincent (Gerald Fess) of Belgrave, sister Norma Hartwick of Ripley, brothers-in-law Doug Wrightson of Port Elgin and Ray Pennington (Liz Stobo) of Teeswater and by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Predeceased by granddaughter Shannon Vincent, sister Doreen Wrightson, brother-in-law Allan Hartwick and sisters-in-law Lillian (Duncan) McCallum, Wilda (Bob) Campbell and Donna Pennington.
Muriel was born and raised in Kincardine Township. After an eight-year career of teaching in one-room schools across Dufferin and Bruce counties (including two summers attending summer school sessions at the Toronto Normal School), Muriel became a full-time farmer with Robert on the family farm – focusing on dairy, then later beef and grains. Farming was a vital part of Muriel’s daily existence even to the end.
Muriel was involved in church work (CGIT leadership, charter member of U. C. W., Sunday School teacher and Presbytery representative); a 4-H leader; and with Jr. Women’s Institute and Junior Farmers. She also supported the Ripley Huron Fall Fair as a committee member and as a parent. In 2018, she received the Award of Merit from the Ripley Agricultural Society. In 2023, she “eagerly bought” a 160th shirt to wear to promote the fair. Her interest in history and sharing stories of the past led her to be the South West Director of the Bruce County Historical Society for approximately 20 years.
Visitation was held from the MacKenzie & McCreath Funeral Home in Ripley from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 29, 2023. A funeral service was conducted from the St. Andrew’s United Church at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023, with Rev. Ruth MacLean officiating.
Spring interment Ripley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Pinecrest Residents Council or St. Andrew’s United Church are greatly appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
