Alleged impaired driver crashes into Woodstock home

Impaired driving charges have been laid after an early morning crash that saw a vehicle slam into a house in Woodstock.

Emergency crews were called to the collision on Main Street near Douglas Street around 4:30 a.m. on Monday.

There are reports a gas line was severed when the vehicle hit the home. Nearby residences and businesses were evacuated as a precaution.

No injuries have been reported.

A 28-year-old Woodstock man was arrested at the scene, Woodstock police said.

That individual has been charged with driving while impaired by alcohol and drugs and refusal to comply with demand.

Main Street between Butler and Mill streets remained closed as of 8 a.m. Police have given no indication when the street will be reopened. The public is asked to avoid the area for the time being.
