Perth County OPP giving public the OPP-ortunity to join the force

Calling all aspiring police officers! Perth County OPP is inviting you to join the force.

The OPP will hold a free information session on May 6 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the West Perth Municipal Office in Mitchell.

The session provides attendees who are interested in a career in policing with all necessary information, including the application process, pre-requisites, expectations, and more.

“To become a police officer with the OPP, you have to be 18 years or older,” said Constable Kim Lyon. “You don’t have to have any college or university to apply, you just need your Ontario Secondary School Diploma.”

Lyon said this event is completely no strings attached, open to everybody. It gives people the opportunity to come and ask questions, but there is no obligation to apply after.

“Policing is an honourable and rewarding career. It’s also challenging and requires a great amount of dedication,” said Lyon. “You’re committed to working within the community and you also get the chance to work with stakeholders to prevent crime and improve public safety.”

Anyone wanting to partake in the information session is asked to bring ID matching the name on the ticket and wear professional business clothes only. It’s also strongly recommended you read the OPP Constable application process and frequently asked questions.

If you are not wanting to travel to Mitchell, virtual events and other session locations can be found here.

Everyone in attendance is asked to register beforehand.
