OPP find stolen vehicle, loaded firearm after Wardsville break and enter

One person is facing charges and police are looking for another suspect after officers found a gun in a stolen vehicle.

Just before 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation Police Service were called to a business in Southwest Middlesex for reports of a break and enter in progress.

According to the OPP, officers from the Middlesex County detachment, including members of the Emergency Response Team, K9 unit, and Forensic Identification Services went to Alterna Savings credit union at 1789 Longwoods Rd in Wardsville. When police arrived, they discovered that a suspect vehicle had left the scene. Police say the vehicle was later spotted on Longwoods Road and a spike belt was deployed. That brought the vehicle to a stop, but the two people inside ran from the scene.

A loaded shot gun was allegedly found inside the vehicle. Police also say the vehicle in question had previously been reported stolen out of Chatham.

One of the suspects was arrested, while police are still looking for the other.

A 37-year-old London man  is facing several charges including unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes, possession of stolen property, breaking and entering, and more. The accused is being held for bail.

OPP ask anyone with any information about the whereabouts of the second suspect to call them at 1-888-310-1122. Tips can also be called to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
