Four taken to hospital following downtown construction accident

A construction accident at a building in the downtown core has sent four people to hospital.

It happened at a 26-storey building being constructed by York Developments on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred near the intersection of York and Talbot Streets, but the building’s front faces King Street, across from Covent Garden Market.

There’s no word on how the accident occurred, but a spokesperson for Middlesex-London Paramedic Service says four workers were transported to London Health Sciences Centre, where they were all listed in stable condition.

A tweet from the London Health Sciences Centre said they called a Code Orange, which is activated when “a community disaster event or a series of events has resulted in a large number of people requiring emergency treatment, impacting the hospital’s immediate response capabilities.”

Calls to York Developments weren’t answered on Thursday.

The Ministry of Labour has not returned emails asking if it is investigating the incident.
