Johnny Cash and watercolours: A day in the life of London’s veterans’ care centre

The greatest care for the greatest generation is the goal for which the 350 staff at St. Joseph’s Health Care London’s veterans’ care program strive. The program, located in the Western Counties wing of Parkwood Institute’s main building, is home to about 100 veterans, mainly aging men and women who served in the Second World War and Korean War. After more than two years of pandemic precautions limiting outside visitors, Free Press reporter Jennifer Bieman and photographer Mike Hensen spent a day at Parkwood with residents and staff ahead of Remembrance Day to see what life there is like for some of Canada’s wartime heroes.
