Perth County looking for new members for the Perth County Joint Accessibility Advisory Committee

Perth County is now recruiting new members for the Perth County Joint Accessibility Advisory Committee for the upcoming council term.

In a release, Perth County says, along with its member municipalities, that they are accepting applications for new members for the Joint Accessibility Advisory Committee that will be in place for the 2022-2026 municipal term. The JAAC “provides guidance and advice to the councils of the County of Perth and Lower Tiers to create a welcoming, inclusive and accessible community.” To qualify, applicants must be a resident of Perth County, have a passion for accessibility advocacy, be 16 years of age or older and can commit to a maximum of 10 meetings per year on Tuesday afternoons.

The release states that “additional consideration will be given to applicants who are persons with disabilities, representatives of children with disabilities, and persons interested in accessibility. Those interested in participating on this committee as a paid volunteer from Perth County, or would like more information, can visit https://www.perthcounty.ca/accessibility. The deadline to apply is September 30th.

The Role of the JAAC is to:

-Assist Councils in implementing the 2023-2027 Joint Accessibility Plan in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).

-Advise Councils on accessibility issues regarding buildings, structures, municipal premises and services.

-Work with community groups regarding accessibility issues.

-Review correspondence from provincial and federal levels.

-Promote accessibility initiatives throughout the Perth County community.
