Two people are facing more than a dozen weapons and drug related offences after Strathroy-Caradoc police found a shotgun, a switchblade and a quantity of crystal methamphetamine and LSD inside of a vehicle.
Police were called about a theft behind Denning’s Funeral Home on Metcalfe Street just before 2:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Officers found a vehicle matching the one involved in the theft report parked in a lot on Hull Road. Two people tried to run from the vehicle but were arrested by police. A search of the vehicle, which police confirmed was stolen, turned up 28 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 16 LSD tablets, numerous break-in instruments including bolt cutters, a slim jim and screw drivers, a switchblade, an air pistol, and two stolen cheques.
An unloaded shotgun was also found near the stolen vehicle.
A 30-year-old Sarnia man and a 33-year-old Thorndale woman have been charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a weapon, careless use of a firearm, possession of drugs, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of break-in instruments, occupying a vehicle knowing there is a firearm, theft under $5,000, mischief under $5,000, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
The Sarnia man is additionally charged with possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, careless use of a firearm or weapon, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, and failure to comply with a probation order.
Both of the accused have been remanded into custody. Their next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.
