City hall will soon make more than $500,000 a year by leasing unused land to farmers. Ten parcels totalling 1,078 acres (430 hectares) on the east and south edges of the city are proposed for three-year leases. Politicians on city council’s corporate services committee unanimously endorsed the plan. Most of the city-owned land is slated for future industrial development. Some was purchased as a buffer for the south-end landfill, and a few parcels are related to other future plans, such as a sports park and possible pollution plant. Read More
