It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Doug Fisher, a devoted husband, loving father and cherished grandfather. Doug, with his loving family at his side, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at South Bruce Grey Health Centre – Kincardine, at the age of 78, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness.
Beloved husband and best friend of Barb (née Muhlig), for 54 years.
Loving father of Blayne (Chrystel) and Kendra. Proud grandfather of Kingston, Finley, Bodhi and River (predeceased).
Survived by his sisters Janice, Diane and brother Ian; and in-laws Russell, Dorothy, Elaine and Lorne.
Predeceased by his parents, Stan and Camay.
Doug was a pillar of strength and unwavering support to his family. His commitment to his role as a husband was unparalleled, and his love for Barb was evident in every gentle touch and warm smile they shared. He was her rock, her confidant and her eternal source of comfort.
As a father, Doug was a guiding light, always offering guidance, encouragement and unconditional love. His unwavering dedication and selflessness will forever serve as an inspiration to all. Doug adored his grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them. From bedtime stories and Donald Duck, to playful adventures, he showered them with endless affection and created lifelong memories.
Doug was a man of integrity, humility and compassion. His warm smile could light up any room, and his gentle nature touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He had a heart full of love and a soul that radiated kindness.
As a child, Doug discovered his love of the outdoors moving throughout Northern Ontario as a Hydro family. After a brief career as a cartographer with the federal government, Doug began his apprenticeship with Ontario Hydro/Bruce Power as an electrician, where he would work for the next 45 years.
As he and Barb settled into their Kincardine community, Doug became involved in many ways – as a hockey coach, organizer of Silver Stick, co-owner of D&B engraving, keeper of the Kincardine Pavilion, and member of the Sutton Park pool league. “Dougy Fresh” was always willing to show up for his neighbours, friends and community alike, and nobody was ever surprised and always happy to see “GOAL PA” pulling into the parking lot.
Though our hearts ache with grief, we find solace in knowing that Doug has found peace and eternal rest. We will forever carry his memory in our hearts, cherishing the love, laughter, and precious moments we shared together.
In honour of Doug, we invite you to celebrate his life and the impact he had on all of us, on Sunday, June 9, 2024, from 2:30 to 6 p.m. at the Kincardine Pavilion, 156 Durham Street, Kincardine. Let us remember the love that he so effortlessly showered upon us and continue to carry his spirit of kindness and compassion in our own lives.
Rest in peace, Doug. You will be deeply missed and forever loved.
