ALAN McLEAN
Alan Charles Banting McLean, age 84, of Tillsonburg, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on Feb. 28, 2024.
He was born on Nov. 24, 1939 to Jack and Audrey McLean and spent his youngest years alongside his sister Elaine (Peter 2019) in Bond Head, Ontario.
Alan is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Marion McLean (Burgess), and their three beloved children: Pattie (Dan), Scott (2016) (Jane Ann) and David (Shona).
He was a proud Grandpa to his six grandchildren: Alysha (Brandon), Chelsea (Michael), Duncan, Hayden, Skye and Ella and he will always be fondly remembered as “Super Grandpa” by his three great grandchildren – Victoria, Rachel & Leonardo.
Alan will be greatly missed by his brother-in-law Andrew Burgess (Barbara) and all of his nieces and nephews.
Alan graduated from the Ontario Agricultural College at the University of Guelph in 1960 and was recognized as class president, a role that meant much to him. He continued to maintain contact with many of his former classmates well into his eighties.
Although Alan worked and was licensed as an automotive and diesel mechanic, his passion for the agricultural industry was the driving force of his career. He held various roles over the years culminating in the establishment of GreenLea Ag Centre, with his son Scott, in 1994. His involvement in the industry extended to his role as President and Past President of the Fertilizer Institute of Ontario.
Alan was an active member of the community as a former hockey coach and member of the Lions Club. He had a true passion for music and could play just about any instrument that came into his hands. He enjoyed golfing and also spent a considerable amount of time on the water, boating and fishing with his family and friends in Long Point. Alan and Marion enjoyed many years wintering with their trailer as Snowbirds in the southern U.S. and experienced many trips to Europe together.
His family would like to thank everyone that has provided love and support during this time.
A private family service will be held at Ostranders Funeral Home in Tillsonburg.
A celebration of Alan’s life will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2024, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Carriage Hall, 25 Brock St.W, Tillsonburg.
