OPP seek witnesses of pickup truck, trailer theft

Investigators are asking Huron-Perth residents if they recall seeing a stolen pickup truck and trailer travelling through the area on Wednesday.

According to Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers were contacted Wednesday about the theft from Collingwood, which the owners were tracking on a GPS.

The truck and trailer were reportedly travelling into Perth and then Huron counties before the trailer was abandoned along Line 39 in Perth County, police said. Officers later recovered the pickup truck abandoned on Marlborough Street in Exeter.

On Thursday, police announced a 22-year-old North Perth resident has been arrested in connection to the theft.

He faces several charges, including two counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000, two counts of operation while prohibited, dangerous operation, failing to comply with a release order, and three counts apiece of failing to comply with probation and driving while suspended.

Huron OPP are searching for witnesses who might have seen a white Ford F-150 and-or white trailer driving through Perth and Huron counties on June 14. Police said any video footage from surveillance or dash cameras would also be helpful to the investigation.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact Huron OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or 519-482-1677.
