Canada’s population will hit the 40 million mark on the afternoon of June 15, as the country grows at a record rate.
The 40 million mark will be reached just before 3 p.m. (EDT) according to Statistics Canada’s Population Clock
The clock simulates population increase in real time based on criteria such as patterns for births, deaths, and migration.
“This is an exciting milestone for Canada,” says Chief Statistician Anil Arora. “It is a strong signal that Canada remains a dynamic and welcoming country, full of potential. As we head into Canada Day, this is certainly cause for celebration!”
Canada continues to lead the G7 in terms of population growth, despite the fact that several nations are preparing for the effects of population decrease. Canada has a population growth rate of 2.7 percent. In fact, for the first time in its history, Canada added over a million people between January 2021 and 2022.
The present trend is fueled by permanent and temporary migration, which accounted for nearly all growth recorded in 2022 at 96 percent. If the pace continues, current projections show that Canada’s population could reach 50 million by 2043.
