Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae has announced funding that will go toward programming for local seniors.
Rae announced just over $200,000 that will go toward five local seniors programs in his riding. The Seniors Active Living Centres program and Seniors Community Grant program are funded by the Ministry of Seniors and Accessibility and aim to provide seniors across the province with opportunities to stay fit and connected in their communities.
According to the provincial government, this year, a total of up to $4.5 million in funding will be made available through the 2023-24 SCG program with grants ranging from $1,000 to $25,000. The Government of Ontario also says they invest over $14 million annually to support almost 300 SALC programs.
“Our seniors built our province and country,” said MPP Rae. “It is important that we support them in their golden years. Perth-Wellington is home to many seniors. It is wonderful to see so many local programs receive this funding, which will help them continue to enrich the lives of our seniors. June is Seniors Month in the Province of Ontario. It is a time for us to recognize and thank the many seniors in Perth-Wellington for the many contributions they have made and continue to make in our communities.”
“Seniors Active Living Centres are the action centres for our seniors all over Ontario,” added Hon. Raymond Cho, Ontario’s Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “These Centres are a part of our community and they help keep our seniors fit, active, healthy, socially connected and close to home.”
