Goderich Huron YMCA General Manager Travis Watson invited Mayor Myles Murdock and a few councillors to join him for the ribbon cutting for the Wellness Room renovation Monday.
“Town of Goderich town council has approved a capital refresh for this space that was just completed two weeks ago. So it was about a$140,000 invested into this facility and to this community, understanding the importance of a healthy, active lifestyle,” said Watson.
Watson said movement is medicine so having a daily or weekly routine that helps to keep your body moving is essential. He says their goal is provide the best equipment and the best experience to make it easier for people to be active. They invite people to come out and have a look at the new equipment. Watson explained they’ve renovated the free-weight area and put sound barrier flooring in.
“We’ve renovated all the machines in this space and then we’ve also renovated our selectorized equipment, so this typical circuit of weight machines that you see in a facility have all been recently upgraded,” he added.
Watson said they also have two new functional trainers that make things more accessible for all different demographics.
Watson pointed out that having a fitness routine is even more important now because getting to see a family doctor can be a challenge, so anything we can do to stay healthy and prevent problems is worth the effort.
