About 20 local organizations will benefit from United Way Perth-Huron (UWPH)’s $3.2-million impact funding commitment over the next three years.
Impact funding is “multi-year support for ongoing programs that are part of the recipient organization’s overarching structure and mission,” according to UWPH. Investments such as these are designed to generate positive social impact while eventually creating a financial return.
Issues of homelessness, mental health, and accessibility hit close to home for all organizations involved in this announcement.
“UWPH is proud to fund 20 local partners encompassing 25 programs and services,” said Megan Partridge, UWPH’s director of governance and community impact. “The needs in our community continue to grow, both in terms of dollars requested and the number of people who need support, which made for some difficult decisions on the part of our volunteer Community Impact and Allocations committee. We thank all the organizations that applied and look forward to working with our partners to continue strengthening supports for vulnerable local people.”
Those on the receiving end of this funding include Big Brothers Big Sisters of Listowel & District, South Huron, and South Bruce North Huron, the Canadian Mental Health Association Huron Perth, as well as a number of food banks, shelters, and community centres.
UWPH says providing funding over three years will help increase these organizations’ financial stability and make services more sustainable for the community.
