Starting Saturday, Bruce County is implementing a new policy that will charge electric vehicle (EV) drivers for staying at a charging station too long.
The Idle Fee Parking Charge is intended to keep vehicles from being left at charging stations for long periods of times, such as overnight or throughout the weekend.
EV owners will have a 20-minute grace period to move their vehicle once it is fully charged. After those 20 minutes, the account or credit card on file will be charged 50 cents for every minute spent idling at the station.
As a warning, the charging station display will show a “Parking Charge Fee” notification when the grade period is over.
The Idle Fee Parking Charge will apply to all charging stations owned by Bruce County. These are located at the Bruce County Administration Centre in Walkerton, the Peninsula Hub in Wiarton, the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre in Southampton, and the Penetangore Hub in Kincardine.
