Daily flights to Calgary returning to London airport

The terminals at the London International Airport are about to get a whole lot busier.

Canada’s second largest airline is bringing back non-stop flights between London and Calgary starting this Sunday. WestJet currently offers service between the two cities three times a week. It is now increasing that offering just as the busy travel season arrives.

“Together with our partners at WestJet, London International Airport is so excited to bring back the daily service to Calgary” said Gerry Vanderhoek, the director of commercial and air services at London International Airport. “Not only is the non-stop service convenient to connect two of Canada’s fastest growing cities, the daily route provides an efficient way to reach WestJet’s largest hub and catch connecting flights to anywhere in the world.”

The airline, which operates five different types of planes and flies to more than a 100 destinations in North America, is already banking on the daily flights between London and Calgary being popular. It plans to ramp up the service to twice daily with a new red-eye flight taking off on June 2.

“The two daily flights that start in June show the commitment and confidence that WestJet has in the London Market,” Vanderhoek added.

WestJet previously announced the addition of non-stop service from London to Edmonton that will begin on May 19. That route will run twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays. Also beginning next month, new, non-stop service from London to Abbotsford, British Columbia aboard WestJet-owned, discount carrier Swoop Airlines. It will start as twice-per-week service on May 19 and increase in July to four days a week with flights on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays through early September.
