Perth Wellington hospitals get more money for on-call physicians

Perth-Wellington hospitals are getting over $6 million to support after-hours care.

MPP Matthew Rae announced on April 17 that three hospitals would be getting a share of funding through the province’s Hospital On-Call Coverage (HOCC) program.

“This is great news for our rural healthcare system,” Rae said. “This funding will allow our hospitals to continue providing quality care 24/7.”

Stratford General Hospital is receiving $2,308,501 in funding, Guelph General Hospital gets $2,641,573 and Groves Memorial Community Hospital nets $1,207,642 to allow for more stable after-hours coverage.

The announcement follows through on previous agreements between the Ontario Medical Association and Ontario Ministry of Health to increase dedicated funding for physicians on-call.

The province is making a $259 million investment to support on-call coverage in acute-care hospitals across Ontario, including over $3 million for Grey-Bruce hospitals.
