Owen Sound City Council has adopted the 2023 budget which will add about $36 to the average property tax bill. The budget bylaw includes a total municipal levy increase of 0.86 per cent, the lowest in over 12 years.
The increase will cost the average homeowner in Owen Sound $3.03 a month in 2023. Council and staff found over $720,000 worth of internal efficiencies. The total City levy for 2023 is $33,140,000 and is made up of Capital and Operating dollars.
“Council and staff have worked hard to support various strategic priorities in the proposed 2023 City budget, the first of this term of Council. It reflects the balance of the cost of living and inflation with providing our residents with the service levels they expect from us and rely upon,” said Mayor Ian Boddy.
“The budget process is continuous. Throughout the year, the community is engaged in the development of the budget by providing feedback through surveys, public meetings, and in the development of master plans to identify priorities and service levels,” according to a media release.
