Time to spring forward

We spring forward this weekend.

Daylight Saving Time (DST) begins on Sunday, March 12 at 2 a.m.

The time change means darkness will set later in the evening.

In November 2020, the provincial government passed Bill 214, or the Time Act, which would make DST permanent. However, it will only take effect if Quebec and the state of New York do the same.

Most provinces, as well as Nunavut and the Northwest Territories, will move their clocks ahead by one hour on Sunday.

Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, November 5.

Meanwhile, fire departments also use the bi-annual time change to remind residents to change the batteries in their smoke and CO alarms.

It’s the law in Ontario to have working smoke alarms on every storey of a home and outside all sleeping areas.
