Woodstock police are turning to the public for help as their investigation into the suspicious death of a 30-year-old woman enters its second week.
The body of Karen Cunningham was found inside her parked Mazda 3 sedan on Sixth Avenue near Mill Street on February 3. The personal support worker had been reported missing the day prior. Cunningham’s body was sent to London for an autopsy. In the days that followed, police deemed her death suspicious.
Investigators have been trying to piece together Cunningham’s last moments and on Monday afternoon issued a plea to the public for information to track Cunningham’s last few days.
At this point, no arrests have been made in the case.
“There is currently no perceived threat to public safety,” police reassured Monday.
A funeral service for Cunningham was held at the Brock and Visser Funeral Home on Saturday. An obituary posted on the funeral home’s website Cuningham is remembered as a very special person whose kindness and zest for life will be greatly missed.
“She loved her friends and had the warmest smile that brightened every room she entered,” the obituary reads.
It asked that donations in honour of Cunningham be made to Domestic Abuse Services Oxford (DASO) or Ingamo Homes.
A GoFundMe has also been set-up to help support Cunningham’s family.
“The loss of their beloved daughter/sister Karen has left a hole that can never be filled. Karen’s blue eyes and bright smile will be so greatly missed,” the online fundraising campaign states. “As you can imagine the family is absolutely devastated and all donations and support is greatly appreciated during this time.”
As of Tuesday morning, nearly $5,500 has been raised.
Anyone with information that may be relevant to the Cunningham investigation is asked to call police at 519-537-2323 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
