Perth County Council elects new warden

Perth East Mayor Rhonda Ehgoetz has been named the new Perth County Warden.

Ehgoetz was named warden at last week’s inaugural county council meeting on December 1 replacing Perth South Mayor Jim Aitcheson, who served three terms as warden. She says she’s very humbled by being named warden, with some goals in mind over the coming term.

“Getting an official plan done, we’re working on it diligently, and I know staff really want to get that finished. The other thing we’re working on is some accessibility at the Stratford Courthouse. We’re putting in a new elevator, and we’re working on some other things, too, at the courthouse, to make it easier for people to access our facilities,” Ehgoetz said.

Ehgoetz adds she looks forward to working with the economic development and Perth County Tourism teams to continue making Perth a great destination to live and visit.

“Our economic development team is working with our businesses, and making sure that they have everything they need and to help them out and whatever we can do, I think a lot of businesses are doing that, and they’re starting to see that the public are coming out more and more and supporting them. Our tourism department, they’re putting out videos right now of all the different areas in our municipalities to get people to come out and have a look at our businesses, and I can’t say enough about them. They’re always out there promoting and coming up with ideas, and people are coming to Perth County which is great,” added Ehgoetz.

As a lifelong Perth resident, Ehgoetz says she’s still very excited and very humbled by the new role.

“I grew up in Perth County, I was born and raised in Logan Township which is in West Perth, and I moved to Perth East when I got married, and so I’ve always been a resident of Perth County. So it is a very humbling experience that I am going to be the face of the county,” Ehgoetz concluded.
