Update: $10K raised in Tap for Toys campaign

Update: Organizers say preliminary estimates show approximately $10,000 worth of financial and toy donations were made Friday morning.

As you make your way through your holiday shopping list, consider grabbing an extra toy or two for a child in need. This Friday, December 9, Classic Rock 98.1 will be collecting donations for the Salvation Army at their annual Tap for Toys toy drive.

Radio hosts from Classic Rock 98.1 will set up shop at the intersection of Richmond and Picadilly from 7 – 10 a.m. The local station invites the public to contribute new and unwrapped toys, cash, or a simple ‘tap’ of their bank card to leave a monetary donation. New and existing on-air personalities will be there to mingle with members of the community. O-JOE Coffee roasters will also be there handing out warm beverages.

“[It’s a] great way for us to meet our listeners and help out Salvation Army at the same time,” said Classic Rock 98.1 Program Director Dan Wylie. “It really is one of our favourite events of the year.”

For over a decade, Classic Rock 98.1 has partnered up with the Salvation Army to hold a holiday fundraiser. Last year, the generosity of listeners and passersby amounted to nearly $7,000 and plenty of toys to help the Salvation Army fill its Christmas Hampers for families in the community.
