Drivers urged to slow down in blowing snow

Updated at 7:00 a.m.

A strong west wind is reducing visibility on area highways and county roads.

The Bruce County Roads Department is reporting poor visibility in the Lucknow, Kincardine and Teeswater areas and in the Walkerton and Mildmay areas. Drivers who have taken Highway 21 and the B-Line into Bruce Power say the road is mostly clear with just a few areas of reduced visibility.

Roads are bare and dry to snow covered and slippery throughout Bruce County. Visibility is good at times but blowing snow is causing sudden, brief whiteouts.

In Grey County, road crews are reporting mostly bare and wet to bare and dry conditions. The Hanover and Durham area does have a lot of snow covered sections. Visibility is fair for the most part.

The Ministry of Transportation is reporting Highway 6 up the Peninsula is snow covered with reduced visibility. Highway 23 from Harriston to Atwood is partly covered but the latest update shows visibility is good. Roads in Huron and Perth are partly to mostly snow covered this morning. There is reduced visibility in open areas.

There are no road closures to report.

There is a winter weather travel advisory in effect for most of the region with the exception of northern Grey County and the Bruce Peninsula where there is a snowsquall warning in effect.
