Huron County Warden, Glen McNeil addressed a special Federal commission on Friday, October 28, regarding proposed boundary adjustments to municipalities for Federal elections.
McNeil made his presentation to the commission last Friday in London on behalf of the Western Ontario Wardens Caucus, a group that encompasses fifteen counties and includes 300 small urban and rural communities. McNeil says the proposed boundary changes would affect 1.5 million residents.
“We do not want to be divisive in breaking up any of our communities. Of special note is that the existing electoral boundaries are in line with the proposal as to the population within each electoral district,” McNeil said.
McNeil went on to stats that that means, within Southwestern Ontario, the municipalities are within the guidelines.
“So, within Southwestern Ontario, we’re within the guidelines, so there is absolutely no need to make adjustments to accommodate the number of voters and residents in our particular areas,” added McNeil.
McNeil adds, he believes his comments were very well received and he looks forward to the commission addressing all of their concerns and suggestions. He also points out that when he’s representing 1.5 million people in his presentation, the commission tends to listen.
