Huron County parents get help with child care costs

Huron County’s Manager of Ontario Works and Children’s Services says Huron County parents will be getting some help with child care costs again this October.

Cheryl Patience says last year was the first time this support was offered, but they wanted to give parents some relief from child care costs again this year.

“We do know that the Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care System is being implemented and the Huron County centres are in the process of getting rebates to families and lowering those fees, but as they are in the process, parents are still paying those costs,” said Patience.

Patience says they will cover the parental fees from the funding that they’re provided from the Ministry. So, Patience says parents won’t have to pay fees for child care in October. She says it’s one-time relief because they know the Canada-wide system and reduction of fees is on the way, so it won’t be necessary next year.

“This is just to provide some relief to those families until the Canada-wide System does reduce the child care fees,” said Patience. “So for October, the child care centres will be billing Huron County Children’s Centre directly for child care expenses for licensed child care within the county.”
