Ontario’s police watchdog is probing an incident early Wednesday that left a distressed man in east London with serious injuries.
London police were called about a man in distress near the overpass on Highbury Avenue north of Dundas Street just after midnight.
Officers found the man nearby and tried to negotiate with him. However, those talks were unsuccessful, police said.
The man was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries around 1:45 a.m.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was notified and invoked its mandate. The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates incidents involving police that have resulted in death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
