London police are investigating after a body was found in the Thames River near Ivey Park.
The grim discovery was made by a person passing through the area near York and Thames streets around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The body was located in the water at the bottom of a steep incline. Officers with the marine unit could be seen working to retrieve the body around 2 p.m.
Police have not released any information about the age or gender of the deceased. A possible cause of death has also not yet been determined.
At this point, it is too early to tell whether the death is suspicious, said Constable Sandasha Bough, who spoke to reporters at the scene.
The police major crime section is expected to remain on scene for several hours.
York Street between Wortley Road and Thames Street has been closed. Police are asking the public to avoid the area.
