Soggy weather continues in southwestern Ontario

There’s likely no need to water your lawn or garden on Thursday as more rain is expected to soak parts of the region for several hours.

Environment Canada issued another special weather statement Wednesday evening as additional rainfall trickles through areas including Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, Sarnia-Lambton, London-Middlesex, Huron-Perth and Elgin and Oxford counties.

“Light rain has already begun over regions along the southern and eastern shores of Lake Huron and northern shore of Lake Erie,” a statement from Environment Canada read. “Heavier showers are expected to move in later [Wednesday] evening.”

The weather agency said total rainfall amounts could reach 10-25 millimetres before the system tapers off.

Localized flooding in low-lying areas is also possible as the ground may not be able to absorb water due to the recent heavy rainfall from earlier this week.

The rain is expected to continue throughout Wednesday night and possibly into the early morning hours of Thursday.
