Second person charged in Norwich Pride flag thefts

Provincial police have made a second arrest in connection with the vandalism and theft of Pride flags in Norwich last month.

Several of the colourful flags were either damaged or ripped from their poles on Stover Street between May 20 and May 24.

One flag was spray-painted, while another was stolen from a hydro pole. Two other flags, one that had been previously vandalized, were also snatched from Main Street.

Surveillance footage of the thefts shows three males wearing orange safety gear, a white GMC Sierra pick-up truck, and a red tractor were involved, police said.

Following an investigation, a charge of theft under $5,000 was announced Thursday against a 47-year-old Tillsonburg man. A 16-year-old from Norwich Township was hit with the same charge in relation to the incident earlier this week.

Police believe there are others who were involved in the theft and continue to investigate.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
