City lifts pandemic State of Emergency

More than two years after it was declared, the City of London’s pandemic-related State of Emergency has been lifted.

London Mayor Ed Holder officially terminated the state of emergency on Wednesday. It had been in place since the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I want to thank staff in all community organizations and City departments who have worked tirelessly to support Londoners throughout the pandemic. We have made it through this state of emergency in large part because of your dedication and commitment to keeping our community safe, which has been unwavering,” Holder said in a news release issued Wednesday afternoon. “The past two years have not been easy. I extend my thanks to all residents and businesses who followed local and Provincial health regulations in the interest of community health and safety. Looking ahead, it will be important that all Londoners continue to be diligent as COVID-19 remains a concern. Together, however, we have now reached a point in the pandemic where we can safely end the state of emergency.”

The state of emergency was in effect from March 20, 2020 until May 25, 2022.
