If you’re looking for a job, a new survey suggests your chances of getting one are pretty good.
The latest ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey predicts a “bullish” hiring climate in the third quarter of 2022, perhaps the best in a decade.
“Employment prosperity across Canada is strong,” said Country Manager Darlene Minatel. “These survey results indicate a period of vigorous opportunity for job seekers.”
The survey involved over 1,000 employers across Canada in 11 sectors, including information technology, real estate, wholesale and retail trade, and restaurants and hotels.
With seasonal variations removed from the data, the Net Employment Outlook for Canada rose six percentage points from the second quarter of 2022 and 24 percentage points from the third quarter of 2021. Employers in most sectors and across Canada expect to hire in the next few months.
The outlook in Ontario rose nine percentage points, the strongest of all provinces and territories.
Asked if they plan to increase staffing levels, 47 per cent said they will. Another 40 per cent will maintain levels, and 11 per cent are looking at cutbacks.
Large companies were the most eager to hire staff, with 43 per cent looking for talent, and 62 per cent said they had trouble filling jobs because of the lack of talent.
The most sought-after skills were critical thinking and analysis, reasoning and problem solving, and accountability and reliability.
Hiring in Manufacturing looked the most promising, followed by Primary Production and the Information Technology, Telecoms, Communications and Media sector. It was weaker in the Not-For-Profit sector.
In Ontario, the outlook rose nine percentage points.
