In a campaign stop that lasted only about 20 minutes, Progressive Conservative Leader Doug Ford touted his party’s plan to move the WSIB head office to London and improve GO train service between the city and Toronto.
Ford’s large blue bus pulled into the parking lot of London North Centre PC candidate Jerry Pribil’s campaign office on Oxford Street Thursday afternoon. A smiling Ford emerged and immediately began shaking the hands of supporters.
“There is one thing London North Centre is missing and that is a strong voice down at Queen’s Park,” Ford told the crowd.
He went on to talk about a previous pledge made by his former government to make London the new home of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board’s (WSIB) headquarters. It is currently located in Toronto.
“I’m not a big believer in everything being in downtown Toronto. I believe in spreading these agencies out across the province. On top of that, the Go Train going from London to Toronto we’re [going to] invest $160 million to speed that up a little bit,” said Ford.
He also stressed to the group of approximately 50 people the need for more investment in infrastructure including roads, hospitals, and schools.
After delivering his remarks, Ford posed for pictures with supporters before being ushered out a side door where he re-boarded his bus and departed for Chatham-Kent.
Ford did not take questions from the media.
Earlier in the day while making an announcement in Kitchener, Ford did tell reporters he believed King-Vaughan PC candidate Stephen Lecce is “sorry” for participating in a fraternity “slave auction” when he was a student at Western University. Lecce apologized for his role in the incident in a statement issued on Tuesday night.
