Registration open for spring business workshop in Huron County

The fall class of the Huron County Economic Development Department’s Starter Plus program recently graduated.

Business Coach Genny Smith says they have two classes.

“We do one in the spring and one in the fall, and we just wrapped up the fall program and we had ten new businesses graduate from this program and really, really great businesses and really involved people in their community as well, so it is very exciting.”

Smith explains, potential candidates for the program submit their applications and then go through a three or four-month program during which either she, or one of the other coaches, coaches them.

“They go through twelve hours of workshops and training and then we mentor them and we help them build a business plan and a cash flow analysis and they do all of this work and then they pitch to a grant review committee who decides if it is a sustainable business, how involved they are.”

Smith says they’re still looking for applicants for the spring program and the deadline is April 22nd with the program starting in May. More information about the program and how to apply can be found on the Huron County web site under economic development.
