Central Huron earned three awards for local projects at the recent President’s Dinner by the Economic Developers Council of Ontario at their 65th Annual Convention last week.
Community Improvement Coordinator, Angela Smith, shared in a release that two projects she spearheaded, Huron Student Honey and Back Alley Artist Extravaganza both won awards at the convention. Huron Student Honey was an initiative that brought local students and seniors together to learn about honey bees and process and make their own honey. That project won EDCO’s Rural Excellency Award, as well as the highest honour EDCO hands out, the Lieutenant-Governors’ Award. This award recognizes the best overall project by judging the winners of all categories. Of 88 eligible projects, Huron Student Honey took the top prize.
Meanwhile, Back Alley Artist Extravaganza, the local outdoor art exhibit of paintings created by residents ranging in age from 9 months to 97 years, won second place with the Honorable Mention Award in the “Tourist Attraction & Tourism Product Development” category.
“The EDCO’s Awards program recognizes leaders in economic development and their unique ideas and initiatives,” says Rob Nolan, EDCO 2022 President. “Sharing these award-winning projects with the community provides an opportunity to learn and grow economic development across Ontario.”
