The Sunset Golf Course, north of Goderich, has been sold.
Gary Gravett says the course was sold on March 22nd to four business people from the Oakville – Mississauga area. Gravett says they’ve kept the same staff on. His daughter, Ashley, who is the head golf professional, has taken over as general manager and head pro and Kirk Stewart, his son-in-law, is staying on as superintendent and all the other staff is back. So, Gavett says, essentially, they just want to keep running it the way he ran it for nineteen years.
Gravett says he got into the golf business forty-one years ago and his first job was raking stones at the Saugeen Golf Club and spent some time as the bartender and that year he went to Guelph University and studied turf and became the Assistant Superintendent and then the Superintendent and for the last fifteen of the twenty-one years he was at Saugeen, he was G-M and Superintendent and then Shirley Becker, the old owner here, sold the course to him and the rest is history. So over forty years in the business.
Gravett says he’s looking forward to playing golf in the summer instead of working and doing a little travelling.
