Perth South reviews first draft of 2022 budget

Perth South Mayor Bob Wilhelm says after council’s first review of the draft budget this week, he’s pretty optimistic it will all be finalized next month with a modest increase.

He says first there will be some more review and adjustments.

“We went over the first draft and we’re going to make some changes and come back in our first meeting in March and review it and hold our public meeting. I think we’ll end up somewhere between a 2 or 3 percent increase.”

Wilhelm notes that Perth South council has been able to meet in person the last couple meetings, which has made budget discussions much easier for councillors and staff. He says the municipality has some major projects factored into the budget.

“We’re going to redo Line 10 and in coordination with the county, we’ll be doing a number of roads in that area, so we’ll be spending quite a bit of money on roads.”

In addition to roads, Wilhelm adds the municipality will make a few other necessary purchases.

“We’re going to hopefully order some new equipment, I’m not sure when we’ll get it, but we have it in our budget to get some new equipment. So I’m very optimistic for how things are looking for 2022.”
