Perth County taking online approach to land designation reviews

Perth County Warden Jim Aitcheson says county council heavily discussed the updates to the Natural Heritage Plan that will be incorporated into the county’s Official Plan on Thursday.

Aitcheson says the Natural Heritage Plan involves potential land designation changes, and Perth County has numerous properties that could see their land designations potentially change.

“Believe it or not, we have like 2,700 properties where there’s potential designation changes, so we went through the process of how they’re all going to be contacted and made aware. Then, they’re going to have to ground proof any potential changes just to make sure everything is done properly,” stated Aticheson.

The warden notes that communicating with all those property owners will be a challenge due to COVID and it will be time consuming.

“Part of that is going to be how we’re going to communicate with these people, so we’re gonna do it all online, there’s going to be direct letters sent to people with changes, and there’ll be webinars, too. Basically because of COVID, you can’t just have a big public meeting. We’re going to have to do this pretty much on an individual basis, so it’s going to take some time. We wanna get at this because we do wanna get the official plan all done and approved and hopefully finished before the year is out,” said Aitcheson.
