Local police release statement on planned COVID protests

The Saugeen Shores Police Service have issued a statement regarding a planned COVID-19 protest in the area.

Saugeen Shores Chief of Police, Kevin Zettel, says in the released statement that they are aware of planned protests regarding ongoing COVID-19 mandates in Saugeen Shores, as protests continue around the province in Ottawa, Sarnia and Windsor, blocking major border crossings into Canada, alongside one in Coutts, Alberta.

The statement is as follows:

“The Saugeen Shores Police Service recognizes the need to balance individual rights and freedoms with the need to maintain public peace and order. We will focus on maintaining open communication with everyone involved, a reasoned and tempered approach, and the proper use of police discretion to guide our police personnel’s responses. We encourage everyone to be patient and respectful.”
