OPP in Norfolk County have charged a second person in connection to the death of a teenage girl who last August.
On the evening of August 27, 2021, provincial police say they were called to the hospital in Simcoe after a 17-year-old girl was brought in by paramedics.
The girl was taken to a hospital in Hamilton, where she died. Police later identified the teen as Rachel Cook of Simcoe.
In early September of 2021, police charged 41-year-old Derrick Anthony Adams of Simcoe, who was 40 at the time, with drug trafficking and breach of probation.
Late Tuesday evening, OPP announced Adams now faces additional charges of manslaughter and criminal negligence causing death. He remains in custody while the investigation continues.
Police have also charged another person in relation to Cook’s death. A woman identified as 41-year-old Scarlett Lee Helmer of Norfolk County is charged with trafficking fentanyl.
Lee is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
