Wellington County looks to keep focus on core services

Wellington County’s budget will include a significant investment into road infrastructure and public facilities over the next decade.

That includes a $41.2 investment into facility upgrades including replacing the Arthur Pulic Works facility this year and upgrades in other communities, including Harriston, in coming years.

Wellington County approved its budget Thursday and it includes a 2 per cent increase to the County portion of property taxes to focus on core services.

Other highlights of the budget include continued investment in rural broadband, land ambulance service expansion to improve response times and enhanced direct care hours at Wellington Terrace Long-Term Care as supported by provincial funding contributions.

“County Council passed a responsible budget of service enhancements and investment for 2022,” said Warden Kelly Linton. “The COVID-19 pandemic has presented a series of challenging circumstances for all of the County’s communities, and has changed how we provide services to our residents. This budget will continue to focus on enhancing core services across all of our communities, while also making important investments in infrastructure, health care, transportation, social services, and climate change.”
