Midwestern Ontario continues to deal with surging COVID-19 case counts.
The Grey Bruce Health Unit is reporting 73 new infections Tuesday. 14 are in Owen Sound, 11 in Kincardine, seven in Neyaashiinigmiing, five in Georgian Bluffs, five in Saugeen Shores, four in South Bruce Peninsula, four in The Blue Mountains, three in Arran-Elderslie, three in West Grey, two each in Grey Highlands, Hanover, Huron-Kinloss, Meaford, Southgate, and one each in Brockton, Chatsworth, Saugeen First Nation, South Bruce, and three are reported as 3 Unknown. There are 973 active cases. Nine residents are currently hospitalized with the virus.
Huron Perth Public Health added 79 new cases. 15 are located in Stratford, 13 in North Perth, nine in West Perth, seven in Goderich, six in Perth East, six in Huron East, five in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh, five in North Huron, four in Bluewater, two in Morris Turnberry, two in South Huron, two in St Marys, one in Howick, and two were transferred to other health units. There are 521 active cases. 11 residents are hospitalized with the virus.
Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health reported 1,481 new COVID-19 cases since Friday, December 31st. 355 of those cases are located in Wellington County, where there are 604 active cases. 13 residents are currently hospitalized with the virus.
Ontario is reporting that 12-hundred-90 people are in hospital with COVID-19 today. The province says 266 people are in intensive care, up from 248 yesterday. There are also 10 more deaths from the virus.
Ontario also logged more than 11,300 new infections, but the province says those numbers don’t show the full situation due to newly imposed restrictions on testing.
