The tournament takes place Saturday, June 22, with a shotgun start at 2 p.m., when 80 ladies decked out in pink and creative costumes will gather to raise money for a good cause. The tournament has been held for more than 20 years and has raised thousands of dollars in support of early detection of breast cancer.
Tournament organizers said AMGH is in need of a new mammogram machine that will cost in excess of $850,000.
In addition to the fundraising at the tournament, the organizing committee, made up of five volunteer Sunset members, does fundraising through a ticket raffle. Rally for the Cure has had donations for the ticket raffle of five items totalling $1,000: a handcrafted live edge table by Sunset member Stuart Sharp of Port Albert; a 20-25 minute scenic flight by Papple Aviation; a framed print called Summer Shadows by Elizabeth R. Van den Broeck with 10 matching note cards donated by Janice and Glen MacCuspey; a charcuterie board from J. and D. Muir Designs; and a golf-themed lap throw.

Raffle tickets are $5 each or three for $10. Sunset member volunteers have been out in the community selling the raffle tickets since mid-April. The five winning tickets will be drawn June 22 at the tournament.
The Rally committee has also started a Celebrate and Remember Campaign that will run until June 22. Make a $50 donation and receive a charitable donation tax receipt from the AMGH Foundation. A personalized tribute page will be created and displayed on the Windows of Warriors and Survivors at Sunset Golf Club. “We’re excited to have the tournament back this year and hope to raise considerable dollars for the AMGH Foundation, provide a fun and fulfilling experience for the lady golfers, and showcase Goderich Sunset Golf Club, its truly supportive staff and their amazing chef, Eloa,” tournament organizers said.
“It’s important to promote and raise awareness of the early detection of breast cancer by supporting the mammography section of the imaging department at AMGH. Hospital equipment is so expensive, but more important, the technology of mammography is improving all the time, so with the most up to date equipment the detection rate is better and more lives can be saved. We need to keep services like mammography in our community and in our local hospital.”
Throughout its history, the golf tournament has donated close to $50,000 to the hospital.
