A dozen south London homes evacuated due to gas leak

Residents of a dozen homes on Chiddington Avenue were displaced Thursday evening while fire crews addressed a natural gas leak.

According to fire officials, crews responded to a section of the residential street between Torrington Crescent and Chiddington Place due to the leak.

“12 homes [were] evacuated as a precaution and fire crews are doing air monitoring,” read a tweet from the London Fire Department.

It is not yet clear what led to the leak. Enbridge Gas has been called in and firefighters remain on scene as of 8:30 p.m. to assist with the situation.

No injuries have been reported at this time.
