Employee info at risk after Gateway Casino cyber attack

Gateway Casinos is warning its employees about a possible breach of personal information following the recent cyber attack that shut down a number of casinos for several weeks.

In a statement Monday, officials said that while their investigation is still ongoing, the company understands that the incident may have resulted in the theft of personal information of certain current and former employees in Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia.

“At this time we are not aware of any misuse of information,” read the statement. ” However, we take the privacy and security of personal information very seriously and want to make sure our employees are kept informed.”

The company said employees have been made aware of the possible unauthorized access to personal information held by Gateway. To help ensure employees’ personal information is not being used inappropriately, Gateway is providing employees with a free credit monitoring and identity theft protection plan for 12 months.

“We will continue the work with our expert advisors to determine if any personal information of customers was impacted, but to date, the independent forensic investigation that has been proceeding since April 16 has not uncovered theft of any sensitive patron personal information,” the statement read.

On April 16, a cyber security incident shut down Gateway Casinos facilities across Ontario.

The shutdown included Cascades Casino in Chatham, Starlight Casino in Point Edward, Gateway Casinos in Sarnia, London, Woodstock, and Clinton, and Playtime Casino in Hanover.

The closures took place over two weeks from April 16 to April 29.
