Damage is pegged at $1 million after a fire and explosions destroyed a storage and maintenance shop at Caradoc Sands Golf Club in Strathroy.
Firefighters with the Strathroy-Caradoc Fire Department were called to the golf course on Saxton Road around 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Crews arrived to find a shop on the property engulfed in flames. Hazardous items inside the building, including propane tanks, led to a few explosions.
As a precaution, homes in the area were evacuated.
No injuries were reported, but the shop was destroyed.
“Our business will suffer some disruption over the next while so please work with us and be patient while we deal with this,” the golf club wrote on social media following the fire. They also thanked the public for their support and cooperation.
The 18 hole golf club is family owned and has been in operation since 2003.
The cause of Tuesday’s fire is under investigation.
